Europe’s Multiple Crises: An Increasingly
Ungovernable Post-Modern Empire?
What has gone wrong with the European project? And what, if
anything, can be done to save it? Loukas Tsoukalis invites us
to look at the bigger picture: the continuous expansion of the
European project, an economic environment that creates winners and
losers, a currency without a state, and the implosion of much of
Europe’s neighbourhood. What are the main challenges for the future
and the difficult policy choices facing Europeans?
Loukas Tsoukalis taught for many years at the University of Oxford,
the London School of Economics and the College of Europe, Bruges. He
was also visiting professor at Sciences Po, Paris, and the European
University Institute, Florence. Author of many books and articles.
Adviser to the former President of the European Commission and the
former President of the European Council. He is now Professor of
European Integration at the University of Athens and President of the
main Greek think tank (ELIAMEP). In 2016, he was visiting professor at
Harvard University and he received the Légion d’Honneur for his
contribution to European integration. His latest book In Defence of
Europe: Can the European Project Be Saved? was published in 2016
by Oxford University Press.
